We produce food

We cultivate on the ecosystems' own terms

We do multi-trophic cultivation

We counteract climate change

We create robust business models

We take active part in our communities

We scale out rather than scale up

We rely on knowledge

— Manifesto of regenerative ocean farming

Negative impact is no longer acceptable

Zero impact is no longer sufficient

Extensive human pressure, such as discharge of nutrients, destroyed habitats, ocean acidification and overexploitation of wild fish stocks has been going on for far too long. The future calls for marine food production that goes hand in hand with active restoration of degraded ocean ecosystems and take as its starting point that humans exist as a part of nature within an inextricable and complex web of relationships. We are well past the point, where doing as little damage as possible is sufficient. The very logic of marine food production needs to be reversed.

Lesson 3: Setting up an ocean farm

The great thing about ocean farming is that farm designs are modular, scalable, and can be easily adapted to suit your site. Although most ocean farms have the same basic elements in common, every farm will look a little bit different, because every site and farmer are also unique.
